Declared assets, one point per election
- What it measures
- The total value of assets the candidate declared on the affidavit filed with that election’s nomination. Self, spouse and dependents combined, movable and immovable.
- What moves it
- Filing a new nomination. Property values rise on their own, and declarations also get more complete as compliance improves, so a rise is not by itself evidence of anything improper.
- What it cannot show
- Whether the figure is accurate. Nobody audits it at the point of filing. It also cannot show assets held by anyone outside the declared family, and it is not adjusted for inflation.
