Provenance

Every source, and what it permits

This database aggregates public records. It creates none. Each source below was fetched, its robots.txt read, and its licence checked before any data was taken from it. Three sources named in the original project plan turned out to be dead or closed, and what replaced them is recorded here.

Where a source forbids automated access, no job in this project fetches it, and the same figures are obtained from a route that permits it. That is why the National Crime Records Bureau appears below as a credited authority with crawling marked as forbidden: the figures come through data.gov.in, which exists to be queried.

NetaRecord

robots.txt permits crawling audited 2026-08-11

licence ODbL-1.0

Rows computed from other rows rather than read from an upstream document: constituency to district coverage worked out from village mappings, party alias resolution, identity merges. Every such row still carries the source_url of the inputs it was derived from, and the methodology page explains the derivation. No figure is ever invented under this key.

Ministry of Panchayati Raj

robots.txt serves no robots.txt audited 2026-08-11

licence Government Open Data Licence India

Canonical codes for states, districts, subdistricts and villages. The LGD code is the join key that survives district renaming and bifurcation, which the Census code does not.

Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation

robots.txt serves no robots.txt audited 2026-08-11

licence Government Open Data Licence India

Serves no robots.txt, which under the standard means no restriction. Current term data from April 2023. JBoss application, requires a cookie jar. Sends a Public-Key-Pins header that the .NET HTTP stack rejects, so Node fetch or curl is required; a connection failure here is a client problem, not an outage.

Election Commission of India

robots.txt permits crawling audited 2026-08-11

licence Government of India public record

robots.txt is "User-agent: * / Disallow:" with an empty value, which permits everything. The primary source for sworn affidavits and the origin of every secondary aggregator in this field. Event list current to July-August 2026. Filter endpoint: POST /CandidateCustomFilter. Fetched at one request per second.

Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner

robots.txt serves no robots.txt audited 2026-08-11

licence Government of India public record

Population, literacy and sex ratio at state and district level. The 2011 Census is the most recent completed enumeration; the 2021 Census has not been conducted, so every per-capita rate in this database has a fifteen-year-old denominator and the front end says so wherever a rate is shown.

National Informatics Centre, Government of India

robots.txt serves no robots.txt audited 2026-08-11

licence Government Open Data Licence India

The website www.data.gov.in serves "Disallow: /" and is never crawled. The API host serves no robots.txt and is the platform documented programmatic interface. Working filter is filters[title]=; a bare q= is accepted and silently ignored, returning the full unfiltered catalogue. Only UUID-style resource ids are ingested; short alphanumeric ids are user uploads of uneven quality.

DataMeet

robots.txt permits crawling audited 2026-08-11

licence No declared licence; underlying content is government public record

Historical affidavit CSVs for 2004, 2009 and 2014, the 2008 ECI delimitation text, and villages-to-ac.csv mapping roughly 600,000 villages to assembly constituencies. Last pushed June 2019, so treated as a historical baseline that is re-verified against the ECI portal before any figure is presented as current.

DataMeet

robots.txt permits crawling audited 2026-08-11

licence MIT

Parliamentary and assembly constituency boundaries, district and state boundaries. india_pc_2019_simplified.geojson at 1.9 MB is the browser-sized boundary file used by the map component.

Vonter (mirror of PRS Legislative Research)

robots.txt permits crawling audited 2026-08-11

licence ODbL-1.0

Attendance, debates, questions and private member bills for the 15th to 18th Lok Sabha. ODbL obliges attribution to PRS India and share-alike on the adapted database, met by publishing the bulk export under ODbL. PRS does not report activity for ministers; those rows carry not_reported_reason rather than a zero.

licence Per file; CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA or public domain

Representative photographs and party symbols. Licence is per file and is stored on the media row, not assumed from the site. A file whose licence cannot be determined from the API response is not stored.

PRS Legislative Research

robots.txt permits crawling, with a delay delay 10s audited 2026-08-11

licence Content of PRS India, reused under ODbL via the mirror

robots.txt sets Crawl-delay: 10, honoured as one request per ten seconds. /search/ is disallowed and never touched. Used only to refresh the sitting house between mirror updates.

These are either the originating authority for data obtained elsewhere, a host that has gone offline, or a source excluded on its terms of use.

National Informatics Centre

robots.txt policy unreadable audited 2026-08-11

licence Government of India public record

Host is dead. DNS resolves to 164.100.213.225 but TCP connect fails on both 80 and 443. Superseded by affidavit.eci.gov.in, which carries the archive. Retained here so that historical rows citing it keep a resolvable provenance record.

Election Commission of India

robots.txt policy unreadable audited 2026-08-11

licence Government of India public record

Returns HTTP 403 to every automated client tried, including a current browser user-agent, so robots.txt itself cannot be read. Treated as closed to automation. Cited as the origin of figures obtained by other means; never fetched by a job.

National Crime Records Bureau

robots.txt forbids crawling audited 2026-08-11

licence Government of India public record

robots.txt is a blanket "Disallow: /". No job in this project fetches anything from this host, including the report PDFs. The same figures are obtained through data.gov.in, which exists to be queried. This row exists so NCRB is credited as the originating authority for crime statistics sourced elsewhere.

MyNeta

Association for Democratic Reforms

robots.txt permits crawling audited 2026-08-11

licence Terms of use discourage redistribution

Excluded on terms of use, not on robots.txt, which permits crawling everything except print views. The maintainer of the most complete public mirror archived that repository stating the MyNeta terms of use do not encourage redistributing the data. This project reaches the same conclusion and fetches nothing from the host. ADR established this field in India and is credited as prior art. The underlying affidavits are taken from the ECI portal, which is open.
